My teeth are sensitive after root canal treatment. Could tooth next to it be causing problem?

Q. Hello. I had a root canal 2 years ago and crowned a few months ago. The past 2 weeks I have been getting pain on this tooth if I eat on it and it is sensitive to hot and cold. I have seen an NHS Dentist, who took an xray. She said she cannot see anything wrong with that tooth, but the tooth next to it had ‘shadowing’ around the top and bottom, so she wants to do a filling first, then possibly root canal on the other tooth, which she said could be causing the sensitive tooth to cause me pain. She did say that the tooth previously root canalled had one canal filled right to the bottom and other canal stopped half way down. Would the xray show if the root canal has not worked? And is this sometimes the case that another tooth could be causing pain in the tooth next to it? I am finding it hard trusting this dentist, as they don’t have a very good reputation, but I cannot afford the private dentist who did my original root canal. Thank you.,
A. If the nerve has been removed from a tooth it is unlikely that hot and cold pain will be coming from it and more likely that it will be coming from another tooth

I got my root canal done last week. Right after the root canal treatment the tooth next to it become sensitive to hot and cold. I don’t know if this is something the dentist did during the root canal procedure that could cause the tooth next to it become sensitive to hot and cold. Please tell me what you think.

Hi, I am Experiencing an infection in my front tooth following an accident that abnnoyingly occurred. Treating with penicillin prior to root canal treatment. Can you still put in dental implants? Is it better to have the tooth removed rather than go through root canal in the first place? I am rather nervous about the procedure as a whole, do you provide sedation and how does that work at preventing the pain. I’ll need upper jaw fixing. How much approx? thanks

Had root canal on tooth next to 2 top front teeth. It wasnt through decay but dentist said the pulp wa s inflamed (i had been in a lot of pain but it came on suddenly, no prior problems). Dentist could not give a reason for it to have happened as my teeth health is v good. Gum between and behind is rather tender still and sensitive to prossure if I press on it with my tongue. I can eat fine on the tooth and it doesnt hurt. I had the root canal 4 weeks ago. Is this normal and will it calm down or is there something wrong? Thank you

I live in South Korea and recently broke my three front teeth in a motorcycle accident. The three teeth that broke were already porcelain veneers that I have had for ten years. The dentists insists that he continually do a root canal in order to relieve the pain on the remaining part of the teeth, but when the temporary veneers were put on, I do not feel the pain. Will the porcelain veneers alleviate the pain from exposure? Or should I continue to have the root canal before the permanent veneers are put on? Thank you.

I had some emergency root canal treatment on Tuesday. This resolved the pain which I was experiencing and I have a temp filling and have made an appointment to have the stage stage of root canal treatment done. However yesterday I became aware of a ‘stink’ up- my nose and my family have been commenting. I have been brushing, flossing and gargling listerine, but the stink very soon returns. It seems to be eminnating from my nose. Should I be worried?

How much should I expect to pay for root canal under sedation?

The fee for root canal treatment is a separate one from the sedation fee . So you need to get a quotation from the dentist who is going to do the root treatment . They would need to see you to assess what is involved and the suitability of root treating the tooth .
