My teeth are rotten and yellow….i dont want false teeth?

Q. Dear Dr Rob Tennet,
I am 55 yrs old and throughout my life have had poor experiences with various dentists. my teeth are rotten at the back and my front teeth are yellow despite cleaning. i do not want false teeth but would like to look at what alternatives i could have. G.E

A. Dear G.E.
You are not alone with this problem. Basically your options will be decided by the strength of the foundations that hold your teeth to your jaws. If you have firm but rotten teeth they can usually be successfully built up from gum level. The converse of this is if the front teeth have poor foundations it is not wise to spend time money and emotional stress making them look great if they fall out soon after.

You need to get a thorough examination to decide:
-Which teeth can be salvaged with a good chance of success?
-Which if any teeth need to be removed?
-If there are spaces should they be replaced by bridges, implants or dentures?
-Finally would additional cosmetic treatment such as veneers or tooth whitening be the right option for you?

I would like to be more specific, the good news is you have a lot of options all with different results. One of your options will give you the right blend of the following; a smile you like at a price you are comfortable with, and within an amount of treatment you are prepared to have done.

Best Wishes on your Journey

hi i am seventeen years old and my first six front teeth on the top are rotting and i hate them because i like this girl and i cant even smile at her without being ashamed of myself and i was wondering if i should go to the dentist but I’m scared of what they will do if they even do anything i was just wondering if i should try to replace my teeth its just that im afraid that it will really hurt because ive had about twelve baby teeth removed when i was about 9 because my adult teeth were growing too fast so i had to remove them and it hurt like s**t and that was like ten years ago and i havent been to the dentist since and i dont know if they have made any orthodontical advancements in the filed of dentistry if thats what they call it. What should I do?

  2. Ethan says:

Okay i’m 19 years of age and I am very ashamed of my teeth, just the top of my mouth is rotting and not the bottom. I’m not really scared of the though of going to the dentist it’s just the whole money part is not on my side. I honestly don’t know how my teeth rot even started, because I eat fairly healthy food everyday… And ya I am terrified to even smile a little while talking to anyone. So ya I was never able to go to the dentist because I never had enough money to go to the dentist as I was growing up. I was wonder if you had any solutions to what is the cheapest way to get my teeth back to normal. If that makes any sence heh.

  3. Steve says:

I would go and see the dentist at all costs, you only get on set of teeth! You may be able to receive some false teeth although i dont know how this works for people as young as their teens….

The dentist will probably give you a telling off, but it i’ll be well worth it in the end.

As for the 16 year old, do something noe before your too late… No more sugar in your tea, always smoke with a good filter, keep the cigarette out of your mouth and do tn eat chocolate or soft drinks, surgar literally breaks down you teeth and if you dont brush them before bed, that soft drink works on your teeth breaking them down all night, now have a think of that!!! – may i also mention that there are eight teaspoon fulls of sugar in a can of cola!!!

You can get local anesthic which basically is theinjection type, if your 17 then you’ve prbably had this before, expect a bit of pain but if the dentist harms your teeth in anyway, put your hand up and tell them, they will stop and give your another dose of the needle- simple as that.

Ethan, if your working you will have prblems with the dental bills, most people your age do unfortunatley, but when you get to 25 you will receive working tax credit if your on a low income, the question is weather your teeth will hold out that long? I would do something right away- no matter what, even if you cant have a pint for a few weeks, its better to have the teeth!!!

  10. Marina says:

I’m writing to see how much it would be for my 4 front teeth to be taken out and replaced with dental implants? I really hate my teeth and I’m wondering if there will be a problem because I only have about 9 or 10 adult teeth and the rest are baby teeth. I’m nearly 19 and don’t know why they haven’t came through yet. Also, do you have to pay the full fee at once or isthere any payment plans? Thankyou.

  14. Wilson says:

Hi, im 20 years of age and Ihave never visited a dentist in my life, partly because my parents have never taken me to one. But anyway, I do brush daily and take mouth wash. One of my tooth has a crack on the top of it, near the gum, just a small tiny one but it is noticable wen i talk, this was caused because I always chew mint gum, which i am now trying to stop. I want to go to the dentist but I do not know what to say to him/her, what is the problem called. can the gap be closed? How often after that should I get a checkup? Thanks

  15. Ryley says:

Don’t worry, dentists are used to seeing people from all walks of life, regular attenders and non attenders. Book an appointment with adentist and tey will carryl out a full oral check and advise you on te best course of action.
