my son who has just turned 8 has 2 adult teeth growing behind normal line of teeth

Q. Hi there, my son who has just turned 8 has 2 adult teeth at the bottom front growing behind the normal line of his teeth - there is no space fo rthem to fit in - the dentist I have seen has recommended that he has 2 of his milk teeth removed so that the back teeth can move forward - I’m worried about removing the milk teeth as they should have lasted him another 1-2 years - and what happens when the adult teeth appear for the milk teeth that have been taken out? It feels a shame ot remove teeth when there is nothing wrong with them but understand that his jaw is small. Is this the only option

A. The new big teeth ideally grow directly underneath the baby teeth so when they grow they push the baby teeth out.  If they come out in front or behind the milk teeth you end up with too many teeth.  if you feel your son will tolerate having the teeth removed it is the best option as the new big teeth will then spontaneously move back into place.  The longer the milk teeth stay there the harder it will be to correct the teeth alignment naturally.
