My Overbite Is Causing My Jaw To Ache But I Can’t Afford Braces To Correct It. Is There Any Thing Else I Can Do?

Q.
Hi Dr Moore. I’m looking for some advice. I’ve recently visited my local dentist because I had pain in my front teeth and my jaw aches often. The dentist said its because I have an “overbite”. Whenever my bottom teeth touch my front it causes pain. The roof of my mouth has also started being very tender when I touch it with my tongue. She said the only way to sort it out is to have braces; that will cost 1900+. I can’t afford this as I’m on benefits. What else could I do? Thank you for your time, I look forward to hearing from you.

Hello and thank you for your question. It’s very difficult to sort this out easily but a bite guard might protect the area. You could ask your dentist to refer you to a local dental hospital or alternatively, you could check out the various local practices on the internet and see if they offer payment plans so you can pay for the treatment in manageable sums. I hope this helps. Regards, Dr Andrew Moore.
