my gums have bleed regularly for some time and now receeding is it be a case of surgery

Q. I am only 17 turning 18 and my gums bleed regularly on brushing, i started to use corsodyl mouthwash but it hasnt helped, my gums have bleed regularly for some time and now the gums are receeding. would it be a case of sugery and would it work?

A. Hi there,
Your gums bleed because there is plaque and calculus trapped under the gum and is reacting with the gums- hence the bleeding. This is called gingivitis in the early stages.
If gingivitis is left untreated, then it can progress into more severe gum disease that will result in the bone around the tooth slowly being destroyed- and eventually loosening the teeth. As you are only 16, i would strongly advise a hygienist visit- where you can also be tought good brushing techniques, flossing and inter-dental cleaning. Oral care is so important. Please make a vist to your dentist as soon as possible to try and stabilise your condition. Hope this information has helped you.
