My gums have become swollen after cosmetic bonding, what can I do?

Q.
Hello Dr Moore
I had cosmetic bonding done 6 days ago to close minor gaps between the front teeth. Soon after that The gum tissue in one spot (Behind the two front teeth on the lingual side) swelled up and became painful. I went back to my dentist, he cleaned the surface where he applied the bonding material, which was painful, and gave me chlorhexidine rinse to rinse three times a day. There is some improvement but the area is still swallen and painful. My dentist said that if it does not get better he will need to do even deeper cleaning with local anesthesia. Things are not making sense to me. Why do I need deep cleaning after cosmetic bonding? What’s your opinion?
Thank you for your time
A.
Hello, sorry to hear about your problem

I guess there is a ledge that makes cleaning difficult. If that is the case then you may need the bonding removed and possibly veneers used instead?
Hope this helps, regards

I one of the two main front tooth filled, now the gum part in between the main two front teeth is bigger, I guess you could say swollen but there is no pain.

I’m wondering is this due to the fact that I was recently in for the filling and it will just go away, or could this be an infection?

Like I said it doesn’t hurt but I can feel how its bigger and its really annoying.

It is very difficult to say without having a look at your gums. I would advice you go to your dentist for advice. In the meanwhile make sure you keep your gum clean using floss

For the last two years I have been under the dental hospital in manchester and after a successful treatment have managed to save my teeth. Unfortunately I now have unsightly gum recession with many black triangles. I have previously had a brae and now my teeth have reverted back to how they were so was considering another brace with some gum grafts. My questions is what should be the order of events and secondly will gum grafts work given my recession has resulted in quite a bit of bone loss. Essentially between one of my incisors a visible gap of about 5 mil in size. I also have a root canal on my back most molar and it needs to come out preferably with an implant as there is an abcess underneath I am told
