My gums are shrinking and my dentures keep loosening. What can I do?

Q.
i had a new complete top denture(injection moulded with vivodent teeth) fitted on 25/10/2007(£1150)it was fine to start with,by june 2010 it became very loose even poligrip ultra could not hold it in situ for a working day.after returning to the clinic informed that my gums had shrunk, had denture rebuilt(£750) again fine to begin with but now NOVEMBER the denture is loose again..what are my options- regards
A.
If your jaw is shrinking a lot and over time it may be worth having some bone/ blood tests done buy your medic to exclude systemic causes. Also check that your bite force is balanced, the upper jaw will continue to shrink if it is opposed by natural lower teeth and a “hard” bite.
If the bite is imbalaced reline existing denture with a soft lining.
or Consider an implant supported denture ( 2 or 4 implants in strategic locations)
Hope this helps
