My gums are receeded badly what can be done

Q. Hello, my gums have receeded quite badly on one of my side/rear teeth. Can the tooth be recoated to protect this exposure that feels quite obvious when I run my tongue over it?

A. The reason for your gum recession needs to firstly be diagnosed. Many people think that it is due to excessive tooth brushing but it is often due to excessive bite forces in the area. Once this has been resolved a gum graft can be placed to cover over the defect - this is usually carried out by a gum specialist. the other option would be to place a white filling to restore the lost tooth substance.
