My front veneer has shattered and now I need a crown

Q. THE VENEER ON MY FRONT INCISOR SHATTERED AND THE DENTIST ADVISES ME TO HAVE A CROWN AS THE TOOTH PREVIOUSLY HAD root canal TREATMENT. I AM RELUCTANT TO HAVE SOME OF MY TOOTH REMOVED AND WOULD PREFER JUST TO HAVE THE VENEER REPLACED. HOW MUCH RISK AM I TAKING OF FURTHER DAMAGE TO THE TOOTH?

A. if a veneer has failed the reasons for the failure have to be explored. it is always an easy option to just crown the tooth but a veneer done in a slightly different way with a slightly different preparation can sometime improve the situation and avoid the crown. it may be better to discuss this with your dentist or find a cosmetic dentist in your area for a second opinion.
