My front tooth causing discomfort when I tap.

Q. I have a toothforth from the front at the bottom, not sure whats its name is,its not really hurting and not overly sensitive to hot and cold, but its uncomfortable if I tap on it,however if I apply pressure to it and tap it I feel no discomfort, the gum nearest to it is shrinking,I am due a checkup in a few weeks but wondered what my dentist is going to say the treatment is going to be.

A. Tender to tap on usually means an infection is present, either at the root tip or around the gum.  This may mean the nerve or the gum may need treatment.  Another possibility is that you may be grinding at night time on the tooth that can make it tender – often brought on by stress
