My Front Teeth Are Brittle After Root Canals, My Question Is: Can The Crown Be Attached Under The Gums To Look Like The Original Teeth?

Q.
My front teeth have had root canals and became brittle and now only the roots are left. No more crowns. The roots are up to the gum edge only. One dentist said that the roots can be cleaned again and then posts will be installed. The porcelain jacket will now be attached. My question would be: Can the crown be attached under the gums so it will appear to be like the original teeth and so the dirt will not easily enter the jacket. Will they be strong enough to use it for biting?
A.
Yes, it is often possible to ‘hide’ the crown edge or margin under the gum line, but care must be taken not to place it too deep as this can cause problems. If the crown is an excellent fit and is bonded or sealed on properly then no ‘dirt’ should be able to enter underneath it, at least for the expected lifespan of a crown.

We very often also consider ‘internal bleaching’ to help the underlying colour of teeth that have been root canal treated – this is something you should ask your dentist about or seek treatment from a very experienced cosmetic dentist to get the best results possible.

Kind regards

Mark.

Thank you so much Dr Mark Hughes.
May I please know the name of the bond or seal to be used in my case and is there a longer metal post unlike the normal one to better hold the crown?
And will metal cover on the molars good to preserve the teeth?
