my dentist wants to take my tooth out and do an implant on the same day

Q. I am having part of a tooth that is filed right down, I had a crown with a post in it, crown has come out. There was an abcess in the gum above that bit of tooth. The dentist is taking that out and on the same day doing an implant, is this safe practice as I read your questions and answers and it said to wait 6 weeks? Please advise as I want this done asap

A. Different dentist have different views on this.  With infection present I would probably err on the cautious side.  However your dentist will know your situation better than I will and you should take his advice.
