My Dentist Said I Need To See A Hygienist For Two Years Now I’ve Given Up Smoking. Will It Really Take That Long?

Q.
Hello. I have very protruding front teeth and one missing to the side of them since my last bridge fell out. I need to have work done, does the gum health affect whether I can have work done or not? I have been to 2 dentists for a check up and one said I have fairly healthy gums and teeth but they would need for me to see the gum specialist for up to 2 years and I will need to stop smoking which I have done. I have become increasingly depressed after this news. I look forward to seeing your advice. Thank you.

Hello. I can’t really tell without seeing you first and checking how your gum health is after you’ve quit smoking. I would suggest that you keep to a strict oral health routine and having check-ups every six months and ask them specifically how your gum health is and what they options for further treatment are. You can also start to plan what treatment you may need in this time and save up for it. If you’d like to find out what treatments are available this website’s handy go can show you. I hope this helps. Best wishes, Dr Andrew Moore.
