My Dentist Recommends Braces For Me But I’m Unsure. What Other Treatment Should I Consider?

Q.
In the upper front of my mouth, I have a very bad overbite with a very large gap in the middle. My gap looks like I have a tooth missing but I don’t it is just a large gap. The two teeth on both sides of the gap are the overbite. Will I be able to get a partial, I can not afford implants, What do you recommend? I am a female middle age and I am not comfortable smiling. Is it too late to make the repairs needed. I can not afford dental implants. I know I will have to have the two front teeth removed. Is it normal to have a gap this large? My dentist recommends braces, I do not want to go that route, one of my front teeth is loose and I don’t think braces is the answer.

Hello and thank you for your question. I have to say I agree with your own dentist. If these teeth are reasonably healthy and spaced out, then orthodontic treatment (braces) would be the treatment of choice. Removing healthy teeth and replacing them with implants or a denture for cosmetic reasons is never recommended. In addition, if you do have a significant overbite and gaps, it is unlikely that implants or a denture alone would be sufficient to offer you any cosmetic improvement anyway. I hope this is helpful.
