My dentist hasn’t given me my full Enlighten Whitening Kit

Q.
I have been to my local dentist for teeth whitening and he recommended Enlighten. Cost £450. I have had the specially made trays made and I went back today to collect. They are very comfortable. However, the gel I have been provided is not Enlighten but Polanight at 16% strength. Am I being mis-sold? When I queried the product, my dentist advised that Enlighten is more about the well made trays (which I have) and the gel products are the same. I am starting my 2 weeks overnight treatment from tonight and the dentist has asked to see me in 7 days to assess progress. Any advice gratefully received.

In my opinion if you’ve been offered Enlighten then you should recewive the full Enlighten package. This involves not only the highest quality trays, but a special tooth serun tootpaste to use before you start the whitening and the dual strength Enlihghten whitening gels. A very important component of the Enlihghten product is the daily home desensitisng swabs that’s also provided and a desesitisng application in the dental chair before you beging the treatment at home.

An even more important part of the Enlighten system is an hour of ‘in-surgery’ whitening , using your Enlighten trays and a stronger whitening gel. Have you been offered this as well?

I believe you have been ‘miss sold’ however you are paying significantly less than the usual Enlighten fee which is normally from £750 – £950

Hope that helps

Thanks for your reply Mark. My dentist undertook an inital 1/2 hour treatment in the surgery and has said will repeat this possibly after 1 week but certainly on the last visit. I did not ask what strength he was using but assume it was of a higher strength due to it only being applied for 1/2 hour. I did not realise Enlighten was that expensive, so do you consider, all things considered, that I am getting value for money? I looked on the Polanight website and you can purchase custom made trays for £70 and 10 syringes of 16% for £30. So say the initial outlay is in the region of £120 for the goods (inc. the higher strengh in the surgery) then £330 for my dentist’s time – approx. £83 per visit (4 visits in total – taking moulds, initial visit, after week 1 and then final visit). I have never had any private work done at a dentist before, so unsure if these charges are reasonable? Thank you for any input you can provide.
