My dentist has referred me to a cosmetic dentist

Q. My dentist has referred me to a cosmetic dentist -but they are goiing to charge me £120 to assess my teeth. I dont know if I will be able to afford the price they are going to qoute me-why can t I have a free consultation then if its not possible I am not going to be out of pocket? Do I have to go to the dentist they have referred or can I choose my own without falling out with my own dentist!

A. If you can’t afford the consultation fee then You probably won’t be able to afford the price of the treatment.
The dentist would probably spend 40 mins to an hour with you and it is not only the time you are paying for, it is the ability of the dentist to make the best treatment choices for you and assess the current state of your teeth and the risk to your teeth if treatment were to be undertaken. Somebody that doesn’t know what they are doing would not be able to make these decisions with the correct knowledge.
Not all good dentists charge for their consultations but I assure you the prices of their treatment will be equally if not higher.
You can of course go to any cosmetic dentist that you choose. I don’t think your dentist would mind, however the reason your dentist has referred you to this particular dentist must mean that he/she is good at what they do and if you are going to embrak on cosmetic treatment you want to go to someone who knows what they are doing
