Q. I have all four of my top front teeth crowned, one of these is a posted crown into the root of the tooth. this keeps failing. Presently it has been loose for about a month, but my NHS dentist will not touch it until it falls off for fear of making the root unusable. It is making my life really miserable as I live in fear that it will just drop at the wrong moment, i catch the tooth when I talk, and eating is night on impossible. I even carry a crown repair kit around with me at all time. What would be an alternative to this crown? If i opt for implant, would i be without a tooth completely, I am in my 30’s and the school run would be unbearable if my front tooth was missing. Could a comestic dentist place a false tooth straight way, or provide me with a deture temporarily or would it be better to have all of my front crowned teeth extracted and have an implanted bridge, or each tooth individually as they are required?
A. hi Your options are as follows but all depend on the clinical situation/bone etc..
1. Immediate implant placed as the root is removed with a temporary denture
2. Fixed bridge attached to the other crowned teeth
3. Removable denture or temporary bridge placed at time of extraction to allow the tissues to heal before placing an implant
Either one of these would be better than your current stiuation so I would ask your NHS dentist for a referral to a cosmetic/implant dentist ASAP
