My Canine Has Erupted Over The Top Of My Other Teeth. Would I Be Eligible For Braces Through The NHS As I’m A Student?

Q.
Hello,
I am currently studying at university and I am 19. Over the past year my canine tooth has erupted out but now it is close to being in line with my other teeth, it grew over the top of my other teeth.
It is quite unsightly. My other canine tooth erupted when I was around 11 and my dentist just told to me to wait for the other one to erupt. It makes my teeth look overcrowded. My question is why did this canine tooth take so long to erupt and grow through and will I need braces and can I still get them on the NHS? How long would I have to wear them for? Thank you for your time and I look forward to your advice.

Hello and thank you for getting in touch. I don’t think braces will be possible on the NHS as you’re over the age limit to get them for free but it would still be a good idea for you to straighten the tooth. If I was you I would look into the various payment plans that are on offer at the various clinics locally to you. I hope this helps. Dr Andrew Moore.
