My Bridge Is Loose And I’m Scared I’ll Lose Two Teeth. What Options Are There To Replace Them?

Q.
Hi. I have a bridge at moment that as been in 23 years. It’s 4 teeth attatched to 2 capped teeth, and they have now got tooth decay and it’s been recomended that I take them out and have a denture. I’m not happy with a plate but what options are there and could you tell me the cost of other treatments please. The bridge is very loose and I’m scared of eating now in case it falls out. The teeth are at the front upper and I’ve been told the 2 teeth the bridge are attached to need to come out and I’m very scared.

Thank you for getting in touch. Sadly this is a fairly common issue and something I have to manage on a regular basis. Whenever front teeth are involved patients are understandably more anxious and as a dentist managing this anxiety is all part of the treatment we provide. If the teeth have to come out you only really have 3 options available to you. These options include 1. a denture 2. a new bridge or 3. dental implants.

In cases like yours I tend to follow the same route. Most importantly the failing teeth need to be removed and replaced with minimal disruption to yourself and the simplest way to do this is with a denture. Moulds of your teeth are taken and used to create the denture, then the teeth are removed and the denture fitted. This is called an ‘immediate replacement’ denture and means that you should never have to walk around without your teeth. These dentures can be made to match perfectly to your existing teeth and are very effective. I would normally recommend wearing the denture for approximately 3 months while the gums heal and then you will be in a position to discuss all your options.

I really hope you find this helpful. Kind regards, Marcus Gambroudes.
