My boyfriend swallowed a sharp 3 piece bridge
Q. My boyfriend swallowed a sharp 3 piece bridge when eating sushi. What can happen in this situation and what should he do? Wait for it to pass, try to throw up, or go to E.R?
A.
trying to throw up is definitely not advised. small irregular items normally pass within days. it helps if you eat lots of bulking fibrous food to try to cushion the passage. You should unfortunately check your output to see if it passes in the next 24-72hrs if during that time he suffers abdominal pain you should go to A&E. For larger items you should go to A&E for monitoring during the natural expected clearance.
NHS direct will give you details of emergency facilities in your area.
