I’ve Not Been To The Dentist For 20 Years And My Teeth Are Becoming Discoloured. Does This Mean I Have An Underlying Problem?

Q.
Hi, I was wondering if you could help me. I havent been to the dentist for 20 years so a little bit worried about going. I have noticed of late I have a back tooth that is very sensitive and causing issues when I am chewing. I also have 1 wisdom tooth that doesn’t look great it looks really discoloured and another which hasn’t yet come through but you can see it. I am starting to get worried about my teeth as they all seem to look a little discoloured these days. Does discolouration mean I have bad teeth. Please help.

Regards.

Hello and thank you for your question. In the first instance, if you are at all worried about your teeth I would strongly recommend booking in to see a dentist for an examination. Sensitivity can arise for a number of reasons. These can vary from an area of worn enamel (abrasion) to a cavity or crack in the tooth. The discolouration of your teeth is not necessarily an indication of underlying problems and may just be staining or a build up of tartar, after all it has been over 20 years since you were last seen by a dentist.

I would suggest booking into see a dentist for an opinion and they will be able to advise you on the health of your teeth and put your mind at rest. I hope you find this helpful. Kind regards, Marcus Gambroudes.
