Q. Hi, I am 38 and had my 2 front teeth crowned when I was 14 years old due to an accident, I am very conscious about my teeth and would like the crowns replaced, also my top teeth and bottom teeth protrude slightly and I would like them straightened and whitened. Is this possible even though I have crowns on my top teeth, to have these straightened and in what order would this treatment being done ? Thanks
A. I would probably advise for you to get the teeth into the correct position first- using an orthodontic appliance/brace.
This will mean that when you have your teeth prepared for veneers/crowns- then the minimal amount of tooth tissue will be removed. If your teeth protrude, then more tooth will need to be drilled away to make room for the crowns/veneers. Whitening should always be done before you have your final crowns finished- as the dentist will match the colour of your new crowns to your newer, brighter colour.
Hope this makes sense. If you have any more queries, then I’m sure your dentist will be more than happy to answer them.
