Ive a bridge on 3 of my front teeth now ive a bad pain in the tooth is okay to remove the bridge

Q. Hi.My 3 front teeth are false. 1 tooth has no root as it was damaged by being hit by a hockey stick. So i had to have a bridge on 3 of my front teeth, which meant that the 2 teeth on either side of the broken tooth had to be trimmed down to get the bridge on. I have had this bridge now for about 20 years with no problems. But now i have had really bad pain in 1 of the teeth that was trimmed down. I am really depressed as the dentist has said that he needs to do root canal treatment, either by a hole in the back of the crown or by removing all the bridge and getting a new one, which could cost £600. My main concern is that, is it a good idea to remove the bridge that i have had for 20 years, and get a new one that might not be as strong? Please help!

A. It does seem likely that root canal will be involved to correct the painful symptoms. If root canal is succesful your old bridge will not be stable. it certainly cannot be relied on for 20 yrs. the costs quoted are reasonable rob
