Is tooth extraction my only option if my tooth is infected after a filling has come out?

Q.
Hi, I am hoping you can help me. Approximately 7 years ago I had root canal treatment on one of my bottom molars and this was then filled up, a crown was never advised. At the weekend, the filling has come up and I have been in pain. I have had an xray today and it shows that I have an infection which I have antibiotics for and the dentist is suggesting I have the tooth pulled out rather than a crown. Is there no way the tooth can be saved?
A.
If the tooth has an infection a crown won’t help. You might also have a fracture in which case extraction is your only choice

Is it possible that i won’t have to have an extraction.??? A bout 10/12 years ago I had a crown fitted to one of my back teeth, – but after having a virus infection about a month ago, had throbbing pain under this tooth. Visited my dentist who said probably a bit of food had found its way under the crown and suggested that I had the tooth out. I was reluctant at this stage and had antibiotics . Apart from using a sensitive toothpaste i no longer have any pain, She said she could refer me to a speciialist but “It would cost me” Do you think it has settled downl or is it only tempory. or would another crown be benifitial. ? I am 78 and i still do not like to lose a tooth . What do you suggest.?

If possible have the teeth crowned or removed and replaced with a new denture or perhaps implants

have been suffering from Periodontal disease for many years. In February 2009, I had LANAP procedure done on all teeth as I was too worried about the flap surgery. At that time, several X-rays were taken on mymouth and I was told that I have lost almost all the bone around two teeth(upper left first molar & upper right second molar). Although they indicated that it would be advisable to extract these two teeth, I avoided extraction in the false hope that science would soon find a treatment to regrow bone in these two areas without first having to remove the teeth. One year on,now I can feel improvements in all areas. However, since 7 Feb 2010 evening, I felt severe pain on upper left tooth (one where I had lost almost allbone) when chewing. Fearing that infection was going to spread to other areas and taking onboard the advise given to me an year ago, I had this toothextracted here in Hong Kong on 19th February. Sir, would it be possible foryou to help me get an implant to replace the missing tooth and also get rid of all remaining infection in all other areas. I do recognize that due tolack of bone implant may not be possible, but is there anything you coulddo to help me save the adjacent teeth? I can come to see you anytime. I amwilling to take extended leave from work to come for treatment if needed. Iwould be greatful if you would be kind enough to give me an appointment assoon as possible for an initial examination/consultation and for subsequent treatments. Please could you also give ma indication of the estimate costfor the possible treatment? Thank you

Thesaid tooth was broken when I was a student and at the time my dentist hadrebuilt the tooth with composite filling as a cheap and some what temporaryfix. On Saturday that filling detached, the tooth is perfectly healthy except for the missing section. It is my right central incisor. May I get a quote from you please? Thank you,

He has not fixed the lost filling and she has not got the sign of pyaria, bleeding gums or swallowen gums. He said plaque was built up under gums and that is caused pyaria. She is in alot of pain and can not eat, has lost weight, what can she do to help or fix this and what are the signs of pyaria. Help if you can

This is also known as gum or periodontal disease she needs to have her teeth cleaned examined, new fillings placed and regular sessions with a hygienist or periodontist.

I had a one of my back molars on the left side of my mouth filled in in december, but the pain wasn’t all that serve. I went to the dentist yesterday they said somehow my old fill in had broke an they had replaced it. first i had thought something else was wrong with my tooth since the pain was coming from the hinges of my left jaw to under the tooth an the bottom of the root……I told the doctor i might need for it to get pulled, but he told me no its nowhere to get pulled, but i still thought i need to get it pulled..Before i got my new fill in my tooth was hurting for about 5 days straight with real bad pain, an it still hurts. Can you tell me what is causing this pain!

Hello, I will try and decribe my problem as accurately as i can. On the top right-hand side of my mouth the third tooth from the back has had a piece of tooth fall out. If you view this tooth from underneath and imagine a cross-section with the top left hand piece completely missing I am basically left with a filling surrounded by 3 parts tooth. Can i ask what would be the most likely treatment if i were to visit a dentist. thank you

Layla Says :

If the tooth failed due to a decay weakening the wall , the answrer depends on the extent of the decay when cleaned up, If the cause was mechanical only and no further fractures exist you might expect to replace the filling

have recently had to have a tooth extracted due to an ‘horrific ‘ infection following a root canal procedure. I was referred to an implant specialst for the extraction as my dentist advised that the implant surgeons usually like to do the extractions themselves. The surgeon and the anaethetist (apparently the infection was so bad it could not be done under local) then went on holiday for 3 weeks giving me a load of antibiotics to take in the interim. I subsequently had the extraction and am told that the bone loss is so bad that I may not be able to restore the space with an implant. I’m really annoyed about this as she advised that the bone loss was exacerbated by the length of time I waited for the extraction… but it was she that told me to wait until she returned from holiday! Should I change surgeon…? and how long should I wait to see if the bone regenerates naturally rather than having a bone graft? I’m a 43 yo fit, non smoker. (apologies for the length querstion!)

I recently found some dark spots on my left back molar. I went to the dentist today and he said they are pits and grooves with thin enamel. However there are no cavities yet. He Suggested drilling them down and placing a filling. I’d prefer a less invasive approach. such as air abrasion etc… or even sealants ,maybe. Something that doesn’t require to drill my tooth too much. What would you recommend? What would you recommend

Christa Says :

Very careful drilling is as good as air abrasion, however if there is no decay did you need any treatment at all?

Is it possible to fill or repair a decayed tooth that has some decay below the gum ,the fillings wont stay in the tooth because of the decay below the gum level. Thank you.

December 5th, 2011 at 08:47 PM
Essence Says :

As long as the end of the decay can be reached it can be filled. If it can’t be reached a gum procedure will need to be done to expose the decay. If the decay is too big then the tooth may not be able to be restored.

is it normal for a 15 year olds molar to already need a root canal and possibly be removed and need a dental bridge? It started to crack around september but we could not do anything about it because dentists are so expensive and I was wondering if it is normal for a 6 year molar to already be decaying

February 6th, 2012 at 08:47 PM
Jaden Says :

hi its normal if your diet is so full of sugar that decay takes hold so early and causes the damage. i wouldnt advise a bridge at that age . the decay would have been present for some time before it started to crack
