Is There Supposed to be a Gap Between a Dental Crown and the Gum?

Q.
Hello.

I hope your day is going well.

I am writing to you to find out if the gap between the dental crown and the gum is a side effect of having a crown fitted. I had been treated with one crown, some time ago and realised that it isn’t fitted right. I am worried that food may get behind the crown and so cause the decay process.

I find it hard to believe that this is something happening frequently, can’t believe it is something normal.

Thank you very much for your time.

A.
Hi, thank you for getting in touch. If there is an open gap, you will need the crown replacing. If its just gum shrinkage then keep it clean and see how it goes. Kind regards, Andrew.
