Is there an age limit for dental implants

Q. is there any age restrictions for dental implants i am male non smoker in good health aged 61 years,i have considered this option for some time about five years ago i had x-ray to see if bone structure was suitable, advised then it was okay, can one eat as natural with implants also can you have implants that form a bridge or are they required to be implanted as single units, kind regards.

A. Thank you for your question. It doesn’t seem like you will have any problems with implants. You have enough bone and you are a non smoker. The only other concern would be if your immune system was compromised in any way e.g diabetes.

You could choose to have every tooth replaced with an individual implant if you like but in the upper if you have no teeth it can be restored with a bridge on 6 or 8 implants. This is much more cost effective and can last for a very long time. Eating is not a problem. They are strong and anchored to your bone.

Once the treatment has been finished it is imperitive that the gums are kept healthy so that inflammation doesn’t develop in the gums around them. This can lead to failure of the implant. Although implants are made from titanium and the crown is porcealin they will fail if not cared for properly.

Good luck with your treatment
Kind Regards
