Is its true that I need a retainer at night if I wear metal braces?
Q. Hello. I am a 33 year old woman who would like to straighten 2 teeth at the top front of my mouth. From ages 13-18 I wore braces which sorted out most of my teeth but my orthodontist would not continue my treatment when I left school (even though I was going to university). I am still very self conscious about my smile, even at this age! I have longed for straight teeth, but having recently visited another orthodontist, she advised that i would need to wear metal braces for a year and would need a retainer at night for the rest of my life! This obviously put me off. Is this true?
A. Life time retention is also what I would recommend but this can be fixed to the inside of your teeth rather than removables if you prefer
