Is it really necessary for my back 4 molars to be extracted?

Q.
Hi Dr Hughes, my teeth are in really bad shape and recently I decided it was time I did something about it.I made an appointment with a local dentist who after examining them told me that I would have to have four of my teeth extracted. They are two upper Molars and two lower Molars. The teeth have decayed badly over the years so I didn’t question his decision but I am wondering whether there is any way that the teeth can be saved even though two of them are barely visible. What question should I put to the dentist so that he may consider an alternative to complete extraction? Could he transfer me to a specialist to see if they can be saved?

Thank you for your questions, can they be “root canal treated” and if not by him/her could they refer you to a specialist endodontist? Are the teeth “restorable”. Why don’t you go for a second opinion?
