Is it a good idea to replace normal tooth with implant ?

Q. Hi, I have 3 front upper crowns (8,9,10). Tooth number 10 is dead since I was about 14 which is a long time ago. The crown on this tooth has been replaced about 3 times over the years. At the moment I am not so happy with the crown itself and the sensation i.e does not feel that strong. I am considering replacing the tooth with an implant. Given that there is nothing wrong with the tooth would this be a bad idea. Is there a rule of thumb that people should keep there natural where possible? Would any of your patients request such procedures?

A. It is quite common to replace a tooth of doubtful prognosis with a dental implant before the tooth causes problems especially in cases where the bone may shrink if the tooth is left for too long before removal
