Is gum surgery and dentist advice accurate?

Q. I have four crowns on my front teeth with root canal done more than 15 years sgo. As I was feeling some pain and pressue so my dentist told me that you have to redo root canal and than new crowns will be put. After root canal was done he said one of my front tooth( 11) which has post has no space on back for crown to be fixed so gum surgery is required to expose the root at least 5-6 mm and bone would also be cut. He said this type of treatment may not be good in long run so best option is to take out the teeth and do implant. He said if we do expose root now and cut the bone 5-6mm and crown is not stable after wards then impalnt is also difficult as some part of bone already ic cut. I need your opinion on this.,
A. Everything he said seems correct. Surgery to the root might work but if it fails then it may jeopodise the long term success of an implant supported crown
