Is Fluoride Varnish a Good Treatment Option for Children?

Q.
My son, who is 7, has white patches on his emerging adult teeth which are quite extensive and some of these teeth also seem a bit translucent. He would always swallow his toothpaste rather than spit it out. I am concerned about fluorosis. His dentist is keeping an eye on his teeth and one thing he mentioned was about using fluoride varnish. I’m concerned about treatment with fluoride varnish and can’t find out any info about its use for this particular kind of problem – do you know if this is a good treatment option?

Hi, thank you for your question. The white patches could be flouride in the enamel, they might fade when he is older so wait and see how they develop. Kind regards, Andrew.
