Is cost of hygiene treatment at private practice accurate?

Q. I am registered at a private dentist and currently have a Maternity Exemption. I thought all my routine check ups and hygienic treatments should be free while my Exemption card still valid but my dentist said that the hygienic treatments are not free even with the NHS exemption. The thing is they don’t do the hygienic treatment in one go but asked me to do it in 4 visits and that means I have to pay 4 times. Is that right for them to do that? Many thanks,
A. If it is a private practice then you still have to pay, most Hygienist treatments are paid for privately as well but it depends on the practice
