Is composite filling better than acrylic ones will it last longer?

Q. I had a white filling in a molar tooth I think it was an acrylic one, it was cured by a UV light and matched the natural colour of my tooth, since it was done about four months ago it has been sensitive to hot & cold, I’ve been back to the dentist, he explained that because the cavity was deep it could have been that the acrylic filling was conducting the heat/cold to the root causing some discomfort he has now replaced it with another type of white filling that did Not need a UV light to cure it, its pure white and he said it would be prone to staining, it left a nasty taste in my mouth he also told me not to eat on the repaired side for about an hour, My question is, what material is it likely to be and is this a better material than the acrylic one? Will it last for as long as an acrylic one, Thanks for your time,

A. I think what you are referring to is a composite filling which is a resin based material, not acrylic. i am unsure what the other material you are describing is, but you could find out from your dentist if this was helpful.
