Invisalign for protruding teeth …can you cut my front teeth?

Q. Dear Dr Solanki, Hi I am thinking of getting invisalign braces. The problem with my teeth are that I have protruding teeth, ‘buck teeth’. The two front teeth are quite big in comparision to my mouth’s remaining teeth. Would it be possible when straightening the teeth, that the two protruding teeth can be cut? Looking at images on the net, is seems that when the protruding teeth are straightened, they will overlap the bottom teeth, disproprtionately. Many thanks. B.K.

A. Hi B.K. many thanks for your recent enquiry. From what you have described about your mouth it seems the best way to approach the treatment would be first to straighten the teeth. This could be done using invisible braces, however bear in mind that to achieve a good result you may need to have both your top and bottom teeth treated. Once the teeth are straight you may decide that you are happy with the overall result. And if not you can then maybe have just a few of the front teeth prepared down. Too much preparation of the teeth may cause sensitivity so the more sensible approach maybe to have four veneers in the front four teeth to be able to spread the size of the two front teeth and even things out. Hope this is helpful.
