Im extremely nervous patient and i need several filling what is the cost of inlay and onlays?

Q. Dear Dr Tennet, I am an extremely nervous patient and hence now require several fillings due to decay. Some of these fillings are apparently quite large and the dentist seems unsure if they require root canal work or not. I have since come across inlays and onlays are these available on the NHS or purley private? and if so either way what is the approximate costing? also I appreciate without seeing my teeth its difficult to judge but may they be a better option to fillings and would they last longer. My last root canal was very painful during and after. Best wishes

A. The NHS will cover treatment that is needed to treat pain or restore function. the dentist uses their discretion as to what is appropriate. the Maximum fee for a course of NHS treatment is £198 even if several crowns/ inlays/ dentures are needed. Private options might be where an NHS option does the job but you want something better ( longer life, better appearance etc ). Crown / inlays / onlays cost around £350-700 per tooth.
Sedation might be an option, either taking tablets before the appointment or intravenous injection during.

Can you advise which is longer lasting – a crown or an inlay – I am due to go for treatment shortly and am having difficulty making a decision as an inlay (to match tooth) is a good deal more expensive than a crown. I am 49 years old, and this tooth being repaired is at the very back. thank you.

I was wondering if you could help me by telling me how much inlay crown implants would cost for top half of my mouth due to bad experience at my dentist iam left with this as my only option my previous crowns being needing redone my dentist drilled to much root leaving th eoption of a plate what scares me thanks

Hi, Could you give me a quote on the removal of an inlay and replacement with a white filling. I had multiple amalgam fillings replaced with inlays about 6 months ago and I am recently experiencing sensitivity to hot and coldon one of them. I suspect maybe it wasn’t sealed or bonded properly and bacteria has got down between the inlay and my natural tooth. (Is there anyother approach that could be used apart from removal of the inlay) Many Thanks
