I wonder if Invisalign is suitable for me or not?

Q. Hi, I’m adult and I have some awkward teething. I didn’t have it when I was a child but I guessed it became apparent case when I got older like last few years. My teething seems straight but my bottom teething row seems to be a bit forward than my top teething row. It is as if my jaw got dislocated a bit forward somehow! It caused me some difficulties in eating food like i couldn’t bite some food properly. I heard there was a solution which involved a jaw surgical (to take a bit of my jaw bone off so my jaw would be a bit smaller). I thought that was extreme. I wonder if Invisalign is suitable for this case, or not? (If not, what are other suitable options then?) Long question but many thanks for your kind helps!

A. I don’t think Invisalign will help you  if your bite is as it sounds. I would visit an Orthodontist for a full consultation to discuss all your options including braces or surgery

Invisible braces don’t really hurt but they feel tight for a few days, most patients are suitable for them but you need a full assessment first

hello I have been wearing my invisalign for about 2 weeks now and i just have a quick question about invisalign and eating. I always take my invisalign out when i am eating, but sometime do not get the chance to brush my teeth before i put it back in. SHould i always brush my teeth? and how long after the meal is over is it ok to put the aligner back in? thank you

it is much better to brush and floss your teeth before the aligners go back in.

we are born all different, every person has their little issue about their bodies or face, now since i was a teenager my only dream was to have straight teeth, it is very important because when you talk and you see people they look at your teeth you just loose the idea of talking trying your best to not be the centre of attention when it comes to loud laghing so is it possible to have my teeth straight get rid of this gaps?

April 4th, 2012 at 08:47 PM
Raul Says :

Invisalign treatment is very often utilised to close gaps. I would recommend a full clinical and radiographical consultation from a reputable Invisalign Doctor in your area to assess your teeth and suitability for treatment. Best of luck with your treatment.

Bethany Says :

Hi there! Retracting your teeth back in place should not be a problem with Invisalign, but an assessment if you are a good candidate for this has to be done first. We do offer free Invisalign assessments in our practice, so if you are not too far away it would be good to evaluate you. Hope that helps

My 12 year old daughter is currently undergoing orthodontic treatment firstly to bring her bottom jaw forward and then eventually to straighten her teeth. She has a twin block appliance currently which causes her immense pain and discomfort. Do you think it is worth us exploring invisalign for her as a less painful approach.

Hi , it is really down to experience. Invisalign provide a weekend course for accredited dentists. I personally feel that the dentist should have experience in all types of teeth straightening methods to be able to discuss the best option for the patient.

how many months will invisalign correct the alignment of the teeth? and how much will it usually cost?

April 20th, 2012 at 08:47 PM

Hi there! It depends on how much alignment we have to do for your teeth. The biggest the movement that is necessary to be done to straighten your teeth, the longest it will take. That is why I cannot answer your question before I can have a look at your teeth. Average treatment time is 12-18 months. Hope that helps

Hello Dr Thorne, I hope you can help. I am looking to have my teeth in good order before my birthday, which is in October and just wondered whether it would be plausible for me to have straight teeth in this time? It’s my big 30 this year and I was hoping for once to have a decent smile to surprise all my friends with. Do you think Invisalign can do this for me? thank you for your time and assistance

April 25th, 2012 at 08:47 PM

Hi It depends on how far the teeth have to move to be straight. If you have Invisalign then even if the teeth are not fully straight by your birthday your smile will be better…but I’d get a consultation and treatment started as soon as possible! Adam

I have two slightly overlapping top central front teeth that i’d like to get an invisi-align for. At over £2.5k in the UK it’s too much of a luxury to treat myself to. Am working in Brasov and around Transylvania this summer, and wondered if there was a decent dentist operating there that you could recommend to me. An email would be really helpful. Am there later July and August. Be great to set them straight again! I also need my teeth whitening and have a chip on another front tooth, the one next to the canine which needs to be added to with a little cap. Many Thanks,

Hello Ms Sepehrara. I have been considering braces for a long time and think I am going to opt for a more cosmetically viable option. I’m happy if the brace is either quicker or looks better than a generic set of train tracks. I have a tooth that sits higher up on the gum line than the rest of my teeth and as such I assume that means I cant have Invisalign. I am miffed as I like the look of this treatment. It is only this one problem on my top jaw that needs sorting hence why I have have been in a rush to fix it. Is there a particular fixed brace you would recommend to solve such a small problem? thanks

Hi It could be possible you have an allergic response to the aligners – do you suffer from other allergies? It could also be wearing something in your mouth feels uncomfortable initially. Hopefully it is the latter but I wold cease to wear the aligners and contact you dentist immediately to discuss this with you and Invisalign. Good luck Adam

hello I’ve been reading up on invsialign and im a bit unsure about this aspect of it “you change the aligners every two weeks” does that mean you have to go back to your dentist every two weeks or do you get given the full batch and then you change them at home. If this is the case do you still need to go to the dentist and if yes how often? thank you dr Patel

May 28th, 2012 at 08:47 PM

Hello, I am moving to Florida in three months for work and I currently have invisalign braces. I have spoken to my orthodontist about this as I still need treatment whilst I am over there. He said about giving me all the details etc of the treatment and the aimed result etc to give to someone over in Florida but will I have to pay more? I wanted my orthodontist to give me the rest of the braces so I could take them all and perhaps see an orthodontist over there just to check progress but now I am confused. what do you think is the best course of action?

May 28th, 2012 at 08:47 PM
Quinten Says :

You would have to pay to be seen by a different dentist. If you wanted to move to a different dentist, I would recommend to speak to your current orthodontist and see what he suggests.

Do you need to have your teeth taken out to have invisalign braces? I have exceptionally crowded teeth, and I also have a fear of the dentist-both go really well together hand in hand! So i just wanted to know what is the likelihood of me needing to have tooth extractions? Are there any braces available that can treat crowded teeth but without the need to have any taken out? thank you

Teeth extractions are not necessary with Invisalign, but it depends on which dentist you see

I have crooked teeth and a few gaps on the top of my mouth that I would like to get straightened.I haven’t found a dental practice yet to get the treatment because I am a bit worried about the cost. Another issue is that I grind my teeth in my sleep and when I am stressed. Not all the time but quite regularly and i wondered if that would damage the braces?

May 28th, 2012 at 08:47 PM
Christina Says :

Griding the teeth can be reduced with Invisalign braces; you may grind through a few of them as well, but usually after 2 weeks you move to the next set

Kennedi Says :

hi there I think I would like to have invisalign to straighten out my bottom teeth as well as my top teeth, is this possible, or will it feel to strange and bulky? I would like to have a brace that you can’t see, and obviously invisalign is a good choice for that. The main problem with both my top and bottom teeth is the crowding, is invisalign a good treatment option for this?

May 28th, 2012 at 08:47 PM
Freddy Says :

Invisalign is a good alternative to metal braces and being only 0.3mm thick they are not obtrusive

Jeremiah Says :

hello Is it likely that I will be able to have treatment with the inman aligner for my bottom front teeth. My top aren’t that bad to be honest, but my bottom are just becoming a breeding ground for bad breath and bad teeth. I can’t get inbetween some of them even with floss, so you can imagine what’s going on down there! you are a dentist after all! I’m not sure whether the inman aligner would be the the best practice, but if you could recommend a brace that could do the job i’d be really grateful. thank you

May 28th, 2012 at 08:47 PM
Rene Says :

Hi, the Inman aligner works really well in crowded front teeth, but it depends on the severity of the crowding and how many teeth are affected. I would recommend a consultation with a dentist of your choice to see what options are available for you.

I am thinking about going ahead with Invisalign treatment for a few minor problems that are slowly getting worse. I have had a consultation with a couple of dentists and I happy to go ahead with them. A problem that I hadn’t thought of during the consultations is that I do under water swimming. Would the water have a detrimental affect on the braces and also would they possible come out whilst I was swimming? Do you think it would be best to take them out every time I go swimming?

June 1st, 2012 at 08:47 PM
Jordyn Says :

Hi No the swimming underwater will be absolutely fine with them in, nor will they come out as they are very snug fitting to cause the required tooth movement. Adam

Adeline Says :

Hi, Difficult to say whether you are suitable for Invisalign without seeing you. Some dentists have completed a lot of cases and earned an ‘Platinum’ or ‘Platinum Elite’ status and therefore more comfortable with treating more complex cases. Regarding the costs – maybe they are running a promotion? I would recommend finding a platinum or platinum elite Invisalign dentist for another opinion. Good luck

All in all it’s a big mess! can a person with my teeth problems be treated with invisalign? thanks for your time and I look forward to hearing your expert opinion on the matter, all the best.

June 25th, 2012 at 08:47 PM

Hello! It would be hard for me to say if Invisalign is suitable for you without haven’t seen you! Crowded and crossed over teeth though are treatable with Invisalign, and I would suggest you get assessed by an experienced Invisalign dentist to determine if you are a good candidate. The majority of the cases we treat are crowded cases. Hope that helps, Vasileia.

Ray Says :

Could you please tell me what price I should expect for invisalign for a gap between my front teeth? it isn’t massive or anything and I don’t think it would require any massive movement, but I just have never liked it and now have the money to pay for a brace. July 4th, 2012 at 08:47 PM
Clinton Says :

Hi It depends on the size of the space and whether the teeth have space to move back to close this space, but Invisalign can start from £1995 for very simple cases. You could also consider bonding on these teeth to close the space or other types of brace. I would advise a consult to discuss all your treatment options. Good luck

Hello, I am 34 years old and have got crooked teeth.I have just become single again and the thought of meeting anyone really brings me down and my teeth are not helping my confidence. Would it work on my lower teeth as well?

July 5th, 2012 at 08:47 PM
Jasmine Says :

Hello, Invisalign works equally well on the upper and on the lower teeth. Sometimes, in order to correct the upper teeth you must correct the lower teeth as well because of the bite. The only thing to determine is if you are a suitable candidate. Just make sure you seek an experienced Invisalign dentist to assess you. Best of luck

Good morning, I would like to ask if Invisilign treatment can damage my fillings. Also, when wearing retainers after the treatment, does it affect flossing or dental hygiene? Thank you

July 6th, 2012 at 08:47 PM
Duncan Says :

Hi there! Your fillings and any other restorations you may have on your teeth will be absolutely fine during and after Invisalign treatment. In fact, because this brace is so hygienic and removable, your oral hygiene will not be affected at all! As far as retainers are concerned, if you need a removable retainer then again oral hygiene is not an issue, if you need fixed ones then brushing is fine and little interdental brushes can be used instead of floss to clean your teeth between one another. I personally have fixed and I have no problems at all. Hope that helps

Would it be possible for me to have invisalign treatment again? I wore them a few years ago but then i lost my retainer, so they have slowly, but surely drifted back into position. I would really like to have them back to the way they were, but I just need a little bit of tooth movement, not to the degree required before. Is there a way to have fewer aligners and not have to pay for a full set and also then have a fixed retainer? I would appreciate any help you can give on this matter thank you

August 17th, 2012 at 08:47 PM
Candace Says :

Hi It shouldn’t take too long to do this but you need to see whether the teeth can be brought together without further spaces around the sides opening up or if the teeth should be brought back and then the long term stability assessed. Prices usually start from about £2500 depending on the complexity. Good luck

I have a around 2 /3 teeth which need aligned . Is invisalign effective for this or can this be corrected in a less costly and easier way ?

It sounds like there is a lot of teeth that need moving. I would suggest to have an evaluation to discuss your expectations and the different types of orthodontic treatments available for your case. If it is convenient for you, we offer free assessments to determine which kind of brace would be best for you. Hope that helps

I work on a rotational basis in Africa and I’m only in UK for a maximum of 3 weeks. Is it possible to get hidden/invisible braces fitted in this time? If yes, Which is the fastest method to straighten teeth (the cost isn’t a problem)? I had braces when I was younger, but didn’t wear the plastic retainer as a result my top and bottom incisors have started to move and I would like to fix the problem before it gets any worse. Thank you.

We use a few different types of aligners some can be made very quickly so they could be made while you are here then we would give you a number of them and see you when your back. Invisalign takes about 6 weeks to make so it will not be viable.
