Q. I need to have an implant fitted. I am also told I have a couple of loose teeth from bone loss on my lower jaw. Again it looks like I will need implants but I am on benefits and dont no how I am supposed to afford this. Please can you advise me what to do. I lay awake night after night worrying about this. I keep regular appointments with my dentist and have an appointment with a higenist to try to stop the problem getting any worse but my dentist said he cant do anything about the ones that are already loose. Please please help.
A. Regular hygiene visits are paramount in stabilising your condition. Implants are an expensive- yet long term treatment option. Many dental practices offer interest free payment plans to help. I can understand that it is difficult to finance the treatment. Alternatively, you can always opt for different treatment. Dentures are a way of closing gaps where teeth are missing, but this is not a fixed option. there are always bridges that can be done.
Before you start on any treatment, you need to have a full mouth assessment. To have implants placed, you need sufficient levels of bone to place the implant. It sounds as though you have generalised bone loss anyway. Implants may not be the best option for you, but without seeing you in person it is difficult for me to comment.
