I wear a permanent retainer but my teeth no longer seem straight. Should I get a removable retainer to wear at night?

Q. I’m 20, I had braces for 8 years, and have had them off since I was 15. I have a permanent retainer on the top and bottom, but I have noticed my top teeth are no longer straight. I don’t know if it’s because my wisdom teeth are coming in (because i’m around the right age for that) or what’s going on? Should i go to my dentist to get a removable retainer to wear at night?,
A. After you have had othodontic treatment it is important to wear your retainer every night. Your teeth will otherwise move back into the position they were originally. I recommend organising a retainer to be made as soon as possible. You have the option of a fixed retainer ( wire placed on the back of your teeth to stop your teeth from moving) or a removable retainer that you wear nightly.

Hi, i hope that you are having a good day i was just wondering what is the best way to clean my inman aligner? I am brushing it with toothpaste and a brush so far but i just want to make sure that i am being very through so i don’t suffer from any problems in the future, like tooth decay or gum disease. Should I put them in a glass with something like a set of dentures? Should i put mouth wash in with it or is there anything else i could put in? thanks for reading my email and for any help you can give

Hello You can buy something called “retainer brite” Your dentist will normally sell it- but you can get it from some chemists It is placed in water and then the aligner goes in with it hope this helps

I have seen on a few of your case studies that some patients are required to wear a retainer after Inman aligner treatment? Is this always the case and if so for how long is it necessary or is it more on a case by case basis?

Retention is recommended for life after any type of orthodontic correction. It can be as little as retainer wear 3 or 4 nights a week or as much as a permanent bonded lingual retainer. Regards,

hello i had wire track braces a few years ago and wasn’t fitted with a retainer, so slowly but surely my teeth have shifted back into place. Do you think that the inman aligner is suitable for moving my teeth back into their straight position and does it come with or can you request a retainer for after the treatment? Also with my fixed braces i had marks left on my teeth after the treatment is this likely to happen with the inman aligner? I would really like to avoid it tbh! thank you for your time

The Inman aligner is a fantastic appliance to treat teeth that have relapsed after orthodontics. You will be definately advised to have a retainer at the end of your treatment to prevent your teeth from relapsing again. You will not get marks on your teeth with the Inman aligner as it is a removable brace

Hello, I was successfully treated with the Inman Aligner two years ago, and have a fixed retainer and a clear at night. I’m on to my third or fourth clear aligner now and I keep cracking them, and it’s proving expensive to keep replacing them. Is there an alternative that won’t break so easily? I’ve read about the Hawley, is that more suitable for me? Will it be more expensive than a clear?

Casey Says :

Dear Enquirer, A Hawley retainer should suffice. The price of the retainer may be more expensive than your clear one.

i had braces when i was younger and they were perfectly straight. Since the past few years they have moved out of place and are not alignd any more. Could this be because my dentist did not remove any teeth before fitting my braces? Because since then i have gained wisdom teeth, so could this have made my teeth crowded? Is it not possible for my dentist to treat this problem? I also have developed calcium deficiency so my teeth have discoloured. Could i not treat this without teeth whitening? Would you know how much it would aprx be for the teeth straightening? Iv seen the ones with the metal at the back of the teeth, do they work fastest?

do you need to have any teeth taken out when you have the inman aligner? I have a large gap between my front teeth and some mild twistign towards either side of these two front teeth. I am generally uncomfortable with extraction and even just with injections, so if this could be avoided i would be very very happy. Also what is the generally cost likely to be if i am a successful candidate? I have about £2000 saved up and kinda hope that will cover the whole treatment, reatainers and all thank you

Hello not at all. Extractions are only necessary if your teeth are crowded severely- If you have a large gap, it can work with Inman if your teeth are proclined (stick forward) £2000 is about right. Find a certified Inman Aligner dentist in your area
