I was told that I need a metal wire to avoid relapse but I’d need it for 10-15 years! Please advise me.
Q. Hello, I am looking into the 6 month smile braces, however, I was informed that after treatment it is very highly that I will have a metal wire put in behind my teeth to avoid relapse. I was told I would have to keep this wire for anything from 10-15 years!! I have never heard of anyone having this to avoid relapse, even after having braces as an adult. Perhaps I should therefore be looking at more traditional braces? Please advise, as this has really put me off having any form of cosmetic treatment. Many thanks,
A. After any orthodontic treatment you are required to wear a retainer, this can be a wire placed on the back of your teeth (fixed) or alternativly a clear plastic retainer which you wear over your teeth. Unfortunately you do have to commit to wearing a retainer for several years. I wouldn’t let it put you of orthodontic treatment as you don’t see any of them.
