I want your suggestion on wearing dentures
Q. I currently wear dentures but the lower was originally made with a bar on a few of my teeth; but then one side came out of the gum; so the dentist removed the other side; so I’ve been wearing the lower using the pad. Now, I did go to a dentist who made a new complete set; however, I can not wear them-the lower-the first time the front teeth was almost laid out flat; so I couldn’t bite, chew, talk or sing; so he had it redone & then it was straight up way back behind my top; so I can’t chew-they just sit in the container. What should I do? They were very expensive to not be worn. The dentist did offer to refund half ot the money but at that time I refused. Should I sue him because if I call or go by; there is usually no one there.
A. You should be aware that lower dentures often cause a problem for patients because ther is no plate to support them . If you need more stability the best option is 2 or 3 implants in the lower jaw to support the lower denture- It is unlikely to be the fault of your dentist and as such does not deserve to be sued

Is there any special gum that you can chew with dentures???
I have real trouble wearing dentures and have avoided wearing them for a long time. I now wish to enquire about implants and was wondering about the cost. I currently only have deteriorated wisdom teeth only. Is it possible to fit implants for a full set of top and bottom teeth? I would appreciate and information that you could provide me on this. thanks in advance
what would it cost to have a full set of dentures fitted permanantly
Thanks for your question. The cost can vary widely from person to person depending on exactly what treatment is required. The cost can vary from practice to practice depending on the level of experience of the dentist performing the work. Have a look at the search for a dentist section of this site for a dentist close to you and arrange a consultation. Many practices offer complimentary implant consultations
i have had dentures since 26 am know 68 hate having to glue every day would any these implants suit me this is upper dentures i still have 7lower teeth
Yes implants might work out well for you if you have enough bone. You might even be able to have fixed teeth using the All on 4 technique
i am 52 years old and very healthy, i need to fix new teeth for my upper and lower jaw. i mean 6 uppenr teeth and 6 lower, dentures, how long will it take for extration and how long will it take to fix new dentures, will i have to remain without any tooth until then, or can i have a temporary tooth. also may i know what will be the cost, also pls advice what will be the cost if i have to fix the entire dentures
Treatment normally takes 6 months to complete, you need to come to the practice for a proper assessment regarding the fees involved for such complex treatment regards
I go to the denist next week I have dentures, a partial on the bottom ,two eye teeth and the one behind each eye tooth The eye teeth are taller than the dentures so I can’t bit into things. What can be done.I would love to eat a sandwich again. sometimes my dentures want to come out.Is this because my mouth gets dry.should I think about having my eye teeth pulled,,I think I need them to help keep my dentures in tight..Also my lips seem sticky.what about filing teeth, how much can you file off beforeyou recieve pain.
Please bring these issues up in front of your dentist, were they will be able to assess if your denture/teeth need adjusting.
hello i am looking into replacement options for my grandma’s teeth as she finds it very uncomfortable wearing dentures and they are causing quite a bit of irritation to her gums. I’ve been having a look around at the different options and wondered if you think implants for dentures would be a good idea for her. He don’t have all that much money and i guess it would be the cheapest option as she already has the dentures. What on average does it cost for this treatment and am i correct in thinking it is the cheapest implant option? thank you
yes it is the cheapest, but cost very
Hi, i had all my teeth removed 5 years ago. Since then i have had 7 different sets of dentures made but i am unable to wear them i just cant stop gagging and cant eat or talk. This is very embarassing for my son as i cant look at people when i talk. My dentist has said there is nothing he can do. I am only 33 and i need to wear them as i cant afford implants. Have you any ideas that may help? Thanks
my brother in law has terrable looking teeth and are quite small and going black. how much would a whole set be roughly? i am thinking avout paying for him to have the cosmetic surgery. please can you advise me at all? thank you and i hope to here from you soon. regards
It really depends what treatment he needs. It can range from a full denture price approx £650 to a full set of implants priced around £14,000. The best thing to do is to arrange a consultation with a cosmetic dentist to get a better idea of costs and options.
I have recently suffered from severe periodontal disease and a large number of my teeth have fallen out. To be honest I am think of having them all out and it seems pointless just have a few stubby teeth left over! Anyone I just wanted your opinion upon the All On 4 treatment and whether you think it is better than dentures alone. Is is long lasting? I would really like a permanent options that doesn’t require adhesive all the time! thank you for reading this message and for any information you can impart.
The All On 4 treatment is a great solution and far better than dentures alone. I would encourage you to consult with a dentist and start this treatment. The longer you wait the less bone there will be left to help support the implants and teeth.
Hi I went to the dentist for an implant denture to my upper jaw, I had a scan whivh revealed i would need to have a bone graft(autograft) in my upper gum, the dentist says this will be a three hour op not carried out by him, but at the hospital, have you any idea how much this will cost, and how long in hospital. and how long before I can eventually have the inplants, and if I don’t have it done will i not be able to wear any sort of denture again. with thanks
Bone grafting of this extent is a very major treatment, all costs timescales and implications of the treatment (such as the final restoration and wearing a temporary denture) should be discussed before treatment preferably with a written plan. Go back to your dentist and ask him to sort this out for you before you start any treatment so you know what the plan is. thanks
Having lost 19 teeth either upper and lower jaws due to gum disease, my question is related to the fact that of this 19, 3 of them are in the front lower jaw and also having some bone loss, I was told by my dentist that the only option I’ve got is a partial denture, is there any other options I can look at or not. My dentist told me that the reason he will not persue the case is to to the fact that if the adjacent teeth start to be loose and they will have to be extracted then there the bridge will be pointless.
It sounds like you’d be an ideal case for an implant retained denture.
many years ago i had quite alot of my teeth out i did have a removable denture put in for my upper front teeth. It is hereditory in my family to loose teeth and i was looking for advice in the options that i would have as the rest of my teeth look like they need to come out. And being that i am only 31 having a denture plate in has been very inconvenient and cost allot in fixedent. I would also like say that my biggest fear is dentists also why my teeth may b as bad as they are as well as me not looking after them as i should, any advice would be very much appreciated.
dental implants may be a solution although you still have to look after them, just like teeth
6 years ago I had a 6 tooth implant 1 year ago start a big problem in my life I have a problem in the left side of my face especially more with my left maxillary sinus, I have an upper complete denture which is supported by six implants and I have facial pain for every day I looking for a suitably qualified dental practitioner who can help out my problem but I don’t have financial conditions to this treatment I’m unemployed and I don’t have no money to pay for this treatment but I can’t stay any more with this pain for I had enough pain so many headaches, toothache, earache, eye pain, could you please help me solve this problem please Thank you.
You should consider going to a teaching hospital or ask your dentist to refer you.
i am soon to have all of my teeth taken out! after suffering from gum disease and tooth decay. I will have to have my teeth replaced, but im not at all keen at the thought of dentures, as they just seem to move around a lot and require a load of fixatives. Could you give me any advice about what kind of replacement device would be the best for me, the most secure and stable etc thank you
The most secure and stable solution would be replacement of your teeth with implants. Depending on your needs you could have 4 implants placed to hold and secure a denture. Or, by adding more implants you could have teeth that stay in and cannot be removed. Consult with your dentist to decide what option is best for you.
ive just had 4 teeth taking out the front at the bottom i have had them replaced with dentures which i do not like can i have a bridge done on these and what cost would it be and do you keep them in all the time with a bridge also is it more comfortable with a bridge than dentures i can always feel them in my mouth and find it very hard to chew anything now awaiting your reply many thanks
A bridge could be a solution and it should be much more comfortable than a denture. Costs are difficult to estimate so you should visit your dentist and ask them for a quote if you’re suitable
My mum has recently had problems with her front upper teeth dental implants. She has had them for 5 years now. They have become loose and she can only eat soft food as they slip when she is eating and sometimes when she is talking. Her dentist said the only option is to have them taken out and have dentures. The reason why she choose implants was because she didn’t want dentures. Is there any other alternative? Do you know why this has happened? Thanks for your time.
I’m sure it won’t be the implants themselves falling out otherwise she wouldn’t be able to put them back in. It sounds like you might be best to arrange a 2nd opinion with another dentist, perhaps an implant specialist??
i would like to have my dentures fitted to my jaw, so they will stop moving around, but i have suffered quite a bit of wear to my jawbone, (due to the loose dentures which need fixing to my jaw!) what is the first step i can take towards having my dentures fixed and what is the best choice of implant for that ? thank you for your advce.
I recommend Ankylos implants, they have a good website- Dentists4u thats worth checking out to find a good implant dentist in your area
Hello, I’m 57 and for months I’ve been trying to wear dentures. I do have some teeth of my own but not many. I have two pairs of dentures and I cannot get on with them. I’ve been really struggling to eat with them in, but the worst thing is I can’t stop gagging and I’m getting quite depressed because I can not afford implants. Socially aswell I’m not enjoying going out especially to restaurants as I have to take the dentures out to eat. I’m extremely self concious. What other options are there and what is the cost? Many Thanks
You could try to modify the dentures by making them smaller, this often helps but can make retention less. That’s where implants help, might you be able to consider implant supported dentures rather than full fixed teeth?
i thought I had made it through the woods and found the treatment I needed for my dentures, but now i fear that i have spoken to soon, as one of the mini implants i got to hold my dentures has become loose. Could you think of a reason and is there anything i can do to have the treatment again? I really feel that i can’t go back to wearing normal, loose dentures again! thank you for your time and for any help you can give
In my opinion mini implants are not a permanent solution as they tend to show higher failure rates than conventional implants. They are cheaper though, so another implant mini or otherwise would still be an option in most case
am I right in thinking that dental implants can replace a full set of teeth? how is this done, how long does it take and what is the estimated cost? I have recently lost all of my teeth to gum disease and although that is gone i am now left with ugly, loose dentures and i really would like something more secure and more long lasting. do you think dental implants are the answer to my problems? thank you
Yes dental implants might be an exellent solution for you. The first step is to arrange a consultation and a Ct scan to see if you have enough bone to place implants. There are many techniques available
On the top of my mouth I only have the two very front teeth remaining! Will that be enough teeth to support valplast partials?
It may be enough to support it but, I question how good it would look. A full upper denture would likely look much better than trying to make a denture fit around two front teeth.
I just had my bottom denture relined. I have had a couple places that have caused sores. Is there anything that I can put on my gums to help releave this?
Have the denture adjusted by the dentist.
I am 66 today, My dentist placed 6 implants in upper Maxilla.Right side is great, but my left upper side One had to be taken out because of pain,i couldn’t eat it hurt so bad. Thursday i was flossing the same left side and a post fell out . This coming week ,Monday i go back. My bil is $5,000.00. Any suggestions? My upper implants have been in place since 2011,December. My upper mouthpiece is ok, My husband says it doesn’t look like me. I think the front teeth denture is to long. any suggestions there?
Not really sure whats happened here, you’re best to go to your dentist to discuss the problems and the options to solve them
I have full upper dentures since 1990 and I need a new pair right now I cain’t afford the implants the standard dentures fills bulky and fells like plastic. So I’ve been looking at the flexible dentures hoping its thinner may not fill as bulky but all the information I seen so far is I require a few teeth to tie to and that I don’t have that. So I hope I’m wrong so if you will please send me the information I Thank You
You need teeth to really benefit from flexible dentures. Have a look at the denture website- changing faces that should help you decide what you could benefit from.
I have had periodontal work done recently and in the process of getting top dentures with bottom to follow. Problem is my dentist wants to do bone grafts after he removes the teeth. I have talked to many people who have dentures, and don’t know anyone who needed bone grafts in order to get dentures. If your getting an implant, then possibly. It’s about $200 per tooth and it’s only a one minute procedure per tooth. That’s $2,000. extra that is not necessary. What is your opinion o this
I personally wouldn’t do it unless you’re thinking of implants within the next year or so
