I want to replace my missing teeth without using false teeth

Q. could i have new teeth in the places that are missing without just being false teeth, and the rest of my teeth looking healthier in line with new teeth and natural. M

A.Dear M,

Thank you for your question about replacing your missing teeth. I presume from your question that you are thinking false teeth in terms of a denture. That said you have 2 other alternatives:

1. Bridges to ” bridge” the gap. This involves capping ( crowning) the teeth either side of the gap and using these to make 3 crowns stuck together. This does involve removing tooth structure from these teeth used to hold the bridge. It also may not be possible if the gap that the bridge need to span is too large, that there is no tooth on one side of the gap to hold the bridge or the teeth used to hold the bridge are not healthy enough.

2. The alternative is to have implants to replace the missing teeth. This basically means a metal titanium root is placed in your jaw where the old tooth used to be and a new tooth screwed on top. This has the definite advantage of not relying on the teeth either side of the gap but is a minor surgical procedure.

Hopes this helps,
