I Used To Have Braces But I Snapped My Retainers And My Teeth Relapsed. Can I Get Treatment A Second Time?

Q.
Hi Dr Shaffie. I had my braces around 3 years ago but I have lost my retainers a year after wearing it and then got new ones, straight after, a couple of months later I have broke both my new retainers again and should of bought new ones but then my teeth moved all the way forward and to their normal positions. This has caused me jaw pains an I can feel my jaw widen again, also it is had to keep mouth shut, also I have an overbite, my teeth really irritate my gums causing it to be very uncomfortable. Would I be able to braces for free again at the age of 16? Thanks.

Hi, thank you for writing in. You need to see your dentist and he needs to refer you to a NHS orthodontist. Explain that the relapse is causing you pain and they should be able to offer you advice on what to do next. You are still under 16 but I don’t know if NHS orthodontic treatment is available a second time as I’m a private dentist. I hope this helps and best of luck. Dr Hussein Shaffie.
