I think I have a crossbite and it is causing me a lot of pain when I eat, can I get this corrected through the NHS?

Q.
Hi Doctor Moore. My name is Steven and I’m 29 years old. My jaw seems to hang lower on the left side of my face and on that side I can not put my teeth together, therefore I have never been able to chew food on that side of my mouth. Also when viewed in the mirror, my jaw on the left side is quite markedly lower than on my right side and looks as if it is not seated correctly. Because my right hand side of the jaw is solely used, it is starting to cause pain as I cannot chew food on my other side. Is there any way I can get this corrected on the NHS? and do you have any idea as to what has caused these problems in the first place? Many thanks and kind regards!
A.
Hello and thank you for your question and the information. However, I’m not really sure what the problem is here, you should ask for a referral to the oral surgery department in the local hospital from your GP. Regards.
