I’m not happy with the dental crowns that were made, what can I do if they’re still not right after another fitting?

Q. Hi, I have had 2 sets of crowns during 39 year period for front top teeth and am now in process of having new ones. I have always had a gap between my teeth and the crowns have been made slightly wider to accommodate this. At the fitting today of these crowns they looked like spades – more width than depth and as dentist put it “characterization” on them (looked like shrivelled prunes instead of smooth teeth). I refused them and insisted a new impression was made and to remove the “characterization” that she insisted she paid extra for. This was NHS, as my others were. The previous sets looked fantastic but these are horrific. If when it comes to fitting them and they still don’t right what can I do?,
A. Your dentist has, by the sounds of things been very generous in the treatment you are receiving. You cannot usually get crowns on the NHS unless they realy need replacing- for function, rather than aesthetics. Characterisation of the teeth is done to craete a more natural look as teeth are not actualy smooth. If however, you don’t like this lok- then you don’t have to have it. You do not have to have the wor fited until you are entirely satisfied. It s difficult for me to comment as I havent seen the crowns myself. Alternatively, you could consder having the crowns done privately for optimum aesthetics. This can be quite costly- depending on the practice. Good Luck, and remember you area paying customer and you have your rights aswell.

I have just paid 400 pounds for a crown, and I am not happy, it is so bad, it looks as though I have a filling, as the silver bit is showing through. The reason why I had a crown, was to get rid of the ugly silver filling

Do I have to pay to get this rectified? I was told by the dentist that if I am not happy, then he can do another one, but I cannot afford for any more.

After a small filling came away in my back right tooth the dentist filled this again and told me i need a crown as the filling may just keep coming away (the previous filling was originally there for 8 years plus), I reluctanly started the treatment for the crown, preparing the tooth with an impression etc, i went back to the dentist the following week only to find out the new crown didn’t fit and he then made a new impression again. The tempory crown had always felt sensitive to touch and i basically could not eat on my right side or drink anything bar warm water! last night i was in terrible pain in this tooth which kept me awake all night (i have never had pain like this!) i went to see the emergency dentist at my surgery today who took the temp crown off cleaned it ect and said you will need to have a root canal, i was in so much pain i am now wondering if it’s worth going through with the root canal or just get the tooth extracted, i could not go through all this pain again, have the root canal done and then still be in so much pain aferwards i am wondering if i should just get the tooth extracted! i wish i had not of bothered and just kept the filling. Iam going back on monday
sorry to sound desperate but Iam !!

I had veneers for years..In January my dentist replaced the veneers my two upper front teeth..This was done on NHS..I instantly disliked them as she made them.smaller than my originsl.teeth..and smaller than my side teeth… She told me they would take a while to get used to yhem.I.hate thrm and my nice smile has gone making me feel miserable. I returned to dentist yoday..it has changed hands..I was told they could be replaced but would cost me £800..Do I hvbe any right to complain or any come back..The dentist who fitted the crowns has retired..
