I lost my front tooth but the root is still intact, would the root have to be removed so I can receive a dental implant?

Q.
Hi

I have recently lost my front tooth, the root is still intact, I was wondering if I would have to remove the root to get a dental implant fitted, or is there a technique where you can use the root as a base.

Also, I would like to know about a smile remake over, I would like my other tooth contoured and the front few teeth looked at. What is the latest in contouring and imaging on teeth to get the best results

It’s potentially possible to be able to use the root of your tooth to hold a ‘post-crown’. This is a method whereby the root of the tooth is used to hold a post that will hold on to the crown which replaces the missing top part of your tooth. How sturdy the root is and and how much root is remaining will be the deciding factors.

A smile makeover can be simulated using either imaging software to manipulate a photograph of your teeth or better still a 3-D model, which we call a diagnostic wax-up, can be made to test out any new smile design for you. Very often we can place a temporary material in your mouth to test out hos this mock-up would look.

An experienced cosmetic dentist can provide these services for you

You should make an appointment for a consultation to discuss all your options

Best wishes
