I hv dentures fitted which are uncomfortable Plz advice

Q. Ihad 3 front teeth taken out 3 days ago and partial dentures fitted. Unfortunately they very uncomfortable and all i seem to be biting on is plastic. Will they settle down? Please advise.

A. Yes they normally do but let your dentsit have another look if they aren’t settled in in 2 weeks, you could also consider alternatives such as implants or bridges.

I have only six front teeth on my lower jaw and have been given a partial removable denture by my dentist which looks awful and I am self-conscious of wearing. There are two metal clasps which fit onto the front of my adjoining teeth and are completely visible and the back of the denture is not secure at all. Also the false gum colour does not match the original gums and is so obvious. What other option would be available to me on the NHS for instance fixed partial dentures.

There aren’t any other options, fixed dentures (bridge) can only be used when there are still back teeth present, you might have to think about implants and pay privately

hi, can you tell me how fixed dentures work? and do you feel they are better than removable dentures? i’m just worried about the upkeep of them. removables would be easier to clean etc but i’m worried that the clasps will have an effect on my other teeth (i don’t want them chipping or anything). so it would be great if you could give the pros of each and explain to me how fixed dentures work..i saw that you would have ti visit a dentist to have them removed? thanks.

Zachary Says :

Fixed is usually preferable to removable for the majority of situations. Removable can still be a good solution in the upper or if combined with dental implants.

when would you recommend replacing dentures with implants? i’ve had a partial denture for around 3 years now but it’s starting to rub and i keep getting sores on my gums. I can’t really afford implants yet (after having a look at prices) but what is the absolute latest time I should leave it for do you think? how would i know if my jaw bone was shrinking back? i’m really starting to panic because i’m happy with my smile thanks to the denture and don’t want to lose it just yet. what would you advise me to do? thank you.

If you can afford it yes, replace your denture with implants.

I’m afraid dental implants aren’t available on the NHS, you’ll need to pay privately for this treatment

Hi There Denture relinig is done by putting a silicone material and letting it flow where the denture doesnt fit,it is then sent to the laboratoty to be rebased, this can be done by a conventional way or using a injection moulded system,it is therfore a mixture of clinical and laboratory proceedures
