I have yellow teeth what can I do to get them presentable?

Q. I have extremely yellow teeth. i dont smoke, drink tea or coffe so i dont understand why my teeth should be so yellow. please could you tell me why this is happening and what i could do to get them a bit more presentable in other words whiter. please answer me as soon as possible because i need to start smiling with confidence thankyou.

A. The yellowness of your teeth is based on the proportion of enamel to dentine and the water content of the dentine.  A simpler way to treat this is to have your teeth professionally bleached by a dentist.  Treatment can take from 2 weeks to 6 months depending on the type of internal stain

I would say its not a matter of which treatment is best but which treatment is more suited to you. In-surgery tooth whitening is a very good method to rapidly whiten the teeth, usually on average 8 shades lighter with minimal hassle to you. Customised home kits are a more slow and steady approach. It usually takes around 7-14 nights of wear to get a similar result to in-surgery whitening. However you have total control over how far to whiten the teeth and you can use them in the future if you feel the colour of your teeth has slightly dropped. If you don’t want to whiten them too much reduce the time of wear and if a really white result is desired prolonged wear can be advised. I quite often recommend a combination of both methods. This allows a quick initial result with the in-surgery whitening followed by use of the home kit as a top up and long term maintenance. I find this works well for people who want to whiten their teeth as much as possible.

I was just wondering about the price of your dental veneers per tooth. I ama 19 year old student with teeth which are yellowing. I also have a numberof cavities/fillings. I would probably only be able to afford to have my four front teeth done. Was also wondering whether you offer lumineers, as Iunderstand that these require minimal change to the actual tooth structure.Thankyou for your time.

Hi There, I’m a 21 year old student who is very insecure about my teeth and it’s always been my dream to have a set of teeth which I can smile and show off in photos and not have to worry about bad pictures. My teeth aren’t yello but hey are stained and I have pointed teeth at either side and also at the front top, it is slightly crossed over because of an accident a few years back. So basically what I was wanting to know is, rough costs!? I wouldn’t want a hollywood smile or anything but definitely a nice smile! Iam from Ayrshire so I will make a point of coming in and seeing use howeverjust wanting to get a rough idea just now!?

Hello, I was thinking about changing my smile for a long time, but didnt have courage to do so. Im quite satisfied with the structure of my teeth, however, I suffer from the very bad discolouration of my teeth. After my milkyteeth my permanent teeth just grew yellow. The teeth hygiene in my familywas always more than appropriate. I just wanted to know, if you could help.I was thinking about porcelain veeners for a complete smile makeover. Also, I would like to know what would be the cost of this procedure. Thank you,Regards.

I have to admit that I am quite scared of the dentist but I also know that I need work done to my teeth which look terrible. My front teeth are very discoloured more do than the rest of my teeth which are also stained and the one to the left of my front teeth is chipped. I don’t have any sensitivity or pain but they really do look awful. What treatments would you recommend and what would be the price of these treatments? Thank you

Hi, I always had very white teeth, until my mid forties, I am now approaching 57, still have good teeth, the problem, due to age and over brushing, my teeth have yellowed towards the top and whiter at the bottom. My dentist said it is a combination, age, wear on the enamal as well as over brushing. He said he is happy to supply a whitening kit that would be suitable for me. He said the treatment would last 9 to 12 months. Do you think this is a possible solution for me with the facts I have just given. Thanks a lot

I have always hated the color of my teeth which are yellowish from taking too many antibiotics as a child. Bleaching does not work. I am fifty eight and a graduate student getting my masters at Carlow University in Pittsburgh PA. I would love to have the bonding procedure but on my budget I cannot afford it. Do you know of any dental school where I might be able to have this done for free or at a considerable discount? I feel it would help my confidence so much to have a pretty smile for once in my life. I would appreciate hearing from you. Most sincerely

Haylee Says :

Unfortunately the procedure you wish to undertake is classed as a cosmetic procedure , which means a dental school would be unlikey to undertake the treatment. The only other option is to be done privately but at a cost. Regards

There are two ways to whiten your teeth 1. Teeth whitening/bleaching provided by a dentist so it is safe 2. Veneers/ porcelain crowns You can read more about these procedures on this site Regards,

I would like 2 veneers to cover my 2 side teeth as i am 22 and still have a visible baby tooth, that is so small and has created a gap, the adult tooth has came in behind but im too scared to have the baby tooth pulled and dont want a brace to bring the other tooth forward, as my NHS dentist said i would have to go privately for this instead of through the NHS. I would therfor like both teeth veneered to make them slightly bigger to fill in the gap covered with a veneer to make the gap less visible. is this possible to do?

August 17th, 2011 at 08:47 PM
Gunner Says :

It is possible but the prognosis of the baby tooth maybe important. If this fails and needs removing it might spoil the overall look, see what your dentist says about the long-term prognosis of this tooth.

I have composite veneers on some top teeth, applied 27 years ago, and 2 crowns. I would like me teeth whitened, to amtch the crowns as they aren’t too bad, and I’m not seeking a ‘Simon Cowell’ set of teeth, and the dentist is suggesting polishng off the remainder of the veneers- she says some/most has worn away anyway – then whitening all my teeth. Do you think this will be successful/safe etc etc. Many thanks

Misael Says :

The answer to your question really depends on the thickness of the composite veneers and whether or not thay were applied only to enamel. If this is the case and almost no tooth or none was removed before placing of the composite veneers, then their removal followed by whitening would be a suitable protocol.

I am considering getting tooth veneers for some of my upper teeth. I have very badly stained, enamel damaged front teeth because of not caring for my teeth when I was younger due to illness. I am only 19, and I am worried that getting veneers so young will mean that eventually I will need crowns. I have read that each time you need to get a veneer replaced, they remove more enamel. So does this mean that I will have to have crowns on my front teeth when I am in my 50s? Thanks.

Mohammad Says :

Not necessarily, but any treatment done to your teeth will need replacing at some point in your life, it depends on hpw much you want to improve the appearance of the teeth, you could consider less invasive treatment such as Invisalign braces and whitening if you’re a suitable case
