Hi. I’ve went for my orthodontic consult and I was told to get 4 teeth extracted before putting on the braces. I was afraid about having any long term effect, so I went to do more research about it. Some has argue that these teeth extraction would actually cause TMJ after having braces. How far do you agree to this? What is the most likely caused of the TMJ? Is it the skill of the orthodontist that matters? Or the teeth extractions?

i there, Basically, when I bite, my left back teeth fit together fine, however my right back teeth don’t touch by a very small distance. When I do force my right back teeth to touch my face feels strained. This has probablyhappened because I have held my jaw forward unnaturally for the past 2 years and never bite my teeth unless eating. I did this because I have a very weak profile and it is very unbalanced so holding my jaw forward balances isit out but now I am tired of holding it and want to be able to relax. I can send you photos if required, also what do you think can be done about this. I do not have an overbite. Thanks very much for your time. Regards

Hi, Hope you can help or know someone who will. Problem is i suffer from severe TMJ pain and have done for 14 years, i have had many treatments all with no avail, including mouth splints, physio, acupuncture, various pain killing medication, several Arthroscopy and arthrocentesis procedures. I now have no whrere to turn, even the Maxillo consultants are sick of me, at theend of the day, they have told me there is nothing they can do and it is something i have to live with for the rest of my life, they will not operatebecause my jaw is still functional and they do not think that will help me,or could make it worse. Then this year my G.P administered cortisone injection into my jaw joints both left and right side, a day or two later my pain was significantly reduced and had been for several months, he then gave me this treatment a second time, to which i have had about six months of reduction in my pain, but now the pain is bad again, and he wont give any morethan the two doses i have had, he did ask advice from the Maxillo consultants who informed him that two was a maximum. I need a dentist or doctor toprovide this cortisone at least once or twice a year at any costs as i canno longer have it through the NHS. Can you provide this, i will pay whatever it costs, or tell me who could please, i would be most gratefull and needhelp to try and live a life with this constant pain. Cortisone treatment is the only treatment that has helped me. Yours Faithfully

I am looking for a London based tmj specialist. I have experienced quite alot of tmj related pain over the past year: jaw clicking, facial pain, muscle tightness etc and am looking for a solution to this. I’d like to know how long an initial assessment would be with you and how much it would cost?

Hi. Interested in having treatment. Have been diagnosed with TMJ, my bite is considerably out of place. I suffer amongst other symptoms facial pain, pain behind the eyes, neck spasms and stiffness and an extremely sore back.I had a mouth guard made earlier this year and it helped significantly, unfotunately it was in a bag that was lost/stolen. I have decided not to go back to the initial place I had the mouth guard as that was the only treatment, I was interested in the treatment you also give to relax the muscles, also the dentist I visited said it was impossible to course back pain.

i have a very severe unbearable pain from my left temporal bone , back of the left ear and left jaw. it is intermittent but when it starts to attack its unbearable. i have braces top and bottom for 2 years from the philippines and have it checked only yearly when im having my annual leave. i alreadyremoved the metal strip and elastic bands that bind my teeth but the painstill remains.i am taking paracetamol sparingly because i am 5 months pregnant. i have no dentist here in the uk so i tried to consult a dentist yesterday because the pain was very bad. I just walked in from two dental clinics as an emergency case but both of them were not helpful saying that they are fully booked and referred me thru a helpline through which never helpfuland did not gave me any appointments at all. now i am suffering from paindid not know what to do.

I think I may have TMJD. Mine was caused by a fall whip lash injury nearly2 years ago, I suffer intermittent ear pains, clicky eustachian tubes, tinnitus, dizziness. I think it’s linked to the upper cervical spine also.

Hi, i am enquiring as to being a potential patient. I have endured some pretty bad dentistry over the last 3 years which has slowly but very surely eroded my natural bite and i am now left with very sensitive teeth and classic symptoms of TMD that are not intolerable but are very uncomfortable. It has been made worse by dental bridges that have been placed and are a poor fit further complicated by mild gum irritation due to the poor fit. I am ata point where i would like total corrective work done on my bite includingorthodontics and ideally the DAMON brace to create a wider smile. But can this be done with a dental bridge in place? And if it is done surely the bridge can’t be a permanent bridge until the end of your orthodontic treatment. I have alot of questions and alot of concerns now as the last 2 dentists, 1 being a Harley Street dentist have destroyed my faith a bit as i’m sure you’ve heard before. I also don’t intend on having any implants or metal in my mouth due to my own personal philosophy, would any of this pose a problem? I would love to know how quickly i can be seen as a New Patient, myonly limitation being I live in Cornwall and am limited by the days i could come. If at all possible i would love a Friday late afternoon consultation. Please let me know if this is possible. I would love to get on with my life again free from pain and with a restored faith in preventative dentistry. I am a Chiropractor so i understand functional neurology and biomechanics so am completely in tune with the idea of neuromuscular dentistry and canunderstand the theory of why i feel so awful and am committed to what it takes to get better as long as i will get better. Thank you for your time and letting me know when i may have an appointment. With regards K

Hi. My dentist in Denmark have told me that I have TMD and need a nightguard. However I got it because of a whiplash and many people say that the nightguard doesn’t work for whiplash patients. Do you have any experience withTMD and Whiplash? Or could you refer me to some that has? And how much doyou charge for a nightguard? Kind Regards

I would recommend that you discuss your concerns with the dentist carrying out your treatment. If your temporary bridge is causing you discomfort then you should discuss this as adjustments may need to be made which may affect the fabrication of your permanent bridge in the laboratory. Regards.

Soooo, Im wondering if you think I should look for another dentist concerning my crown that has fallin off twice now…Im not to happy about it but I dont want to make such a decision while im mad, but i am..I have always had great teeth. My dentist first thought I had a cavitiy and it ended up that I needed two rootcanals…..so several rootcanals later im dealing with this crown falling off again. Also the gum around that tooth is still sore. Its been over three months ago that i got the crown.
