I have tetracycline stained teeth is there a more effective treatment than zoom?
Q. Dear Dr. Solanki, I have been told I have tetracycline stained teeth due to acne treatment. I had Zoom whitening treatment almost 2 years ago which did lighten them somewhat but the effect did not last. I have trays to use at home ‘nitewhite’16% (now out of date). How often should I have used the home treatment (I sleep badly so prefer not to use them at night), I did not want to use them often as I worry that I will harm my teeth/gums. Does whitening actually work on tetracycline staining and if so how often is it safe to have the treatment? Alternatively is there a more effective treatment than Zoom. I don’t want to go down the Laminate route due to expense and damage to teeth. I will be most grateful if you would advise me. Kind regards
A. Hi many thanks for your enquiry, whitening has been found to work on tetracycline teeth, i have actually done some cases myself and have had good results. the best whitening treatment on the market in my opinion is a system called enlighten, which is a home whitening treatment eight hours a night for 14 consecutive nights treatment followed by one hour insurgery treatment. you may require 3 or 4 episodes of this treatment to get a good result so carrying out the whitening over a longer period of time ie 6-8 weeks.
alternatively you could have a few episodes of the zoom2 treatment over again a few months to help improve the colour.
the ultimate treatment would be to couple the zoom2 whitening with the enlighten treatment to try to maximise the beneifts of both treatments.
hope this is helpful.
