I Have Suffered From Bulimia For Many Years And As A Result This Has Affected My Teeth. Is This Something You Have Ever Had Experience With?

Q.
Hi Dr Hughes. I need some advice. I suffered with bulimia for many years and as a result this has affected my teeth hugely. I have lost many of my back teeth as a result and the rest are very weak. I also have a large gap in the front of my two teeth which has been a huge dent in my confidence. I am now in a place where I want to get this sorted and I’m aware of the cost of impacts etc. My worry is I have not seen a dentist for years due to shame and embarrassment of my bulimia. Is this something you have ever had experience with? Thanks.

Hi there. Yes, I have treated and I am currently treating many patients who have had the same problem as you. Many patients we see have a wide range of dental problems and some delay treatment through fear or embarrassment. This often makes their dental condition worse. Please search for a dentist with experience and one which you feel entirely comfortable with. Thank you for getting in touch, Mark.
